Chunky Chocolate Bars

We were looking for a quick simple recipe to make as a dessert while we were down in North Hatley. Something that wouldn’t require too much prep and cooking time. Boy did we pick right. Not only were these chocolate bars ridiculously easy to make, they tasted superb as well! Just a little note, really let the bars get nice and solid by cooling them or they will be a little melty!

Chunky Chocolate Bars

Ingredients (Makes 12)

  • 12 ounces unsweetened chocolate chopped into small pieces;
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter;
  • 1 can (14 ounces) condensed milk;
  • 8 ounces graham crackers, broken;
  • 1/2 cup raisins;
  • 4 ounces pitted dried peaches, coarsely chopped;
  • 1/2 cup hazelnuts or pecans, coarsely chopped;


  1. Line an 11 X 7 inch cake pan with plastic wrap.
  2. Melt the chocolate and butter in a large heatproof bowl over a pan of simmering water. Stir well until mixed.
  3. Pour the condensed milk into the chocolate and butter mixture. Beat with a wooden spoon until creamy.
  4. Add the broken graham crackers, raisins, chopped peaches and hazelnuts. Mix well until all the ingredients are coated in the rich chocolate sauce.
  5. Pour the mixture into the prepared pan, making sure it is pressed well into the corners. Leave the top craggy. Cool then chill until set.
  6. Lift out of the pan using the plastic wrap and then peel it off. Cut into 12 bars and serve immediately.

Bain-marie to melt the chocolate

Melt the butter…add the chocolate and mix until well blended.

Pour in the milk and stir vigorously

Pour in the crackers, apricots and raisins and keep stirring until well coated

Let it cool.

Pour mixture into pan and chill

Chop up into bite sized pieces and let it melt in your mouth!

Dig in!
